Non-Abused Bear

February 19th, 2006 by James

I just came across this Thorpe Park bear being sold on eBay. Aside from the frankly ridiculous 10 starting price, I found the description a little odd:

“never been used. would suit any one”

How would you use a teddy bear? And what are they implying by “would suit anyone”? For what?

Oh dear, it’s off-season for another 3 weeks.

Attack of the Clones

Further from below, I’ve just had a look around eBay: there are now hundreds of copycat Mystery items for sale, following on from the original Mystery Envelope.

Do a search for “mystery” in eBay’s totally bizarre category and you’ll find mystery boxes, envelopes and keys by the handful.

Stranger are the oddities: a mystery snack pudding box and a mystery safe. The safe supposedly contains sombody’s grandfather’s life savings (yeah right!). The minimum bid is $30,000 and the buy now price $750,000. Strangely, with only 2 days of the auction left, there have still been no bids.

As soon as somebody does something original, it seems the world wants to copy them. The thing is, after its been done once, its no longer original. Remember all the copycat air guitars and buckets of water that have appeared on eBay since their pioneering originals? Not funny anymore.

He’s at it again!

March 24th, 2005 by James

You may have seen a few weeks ago that a guy was auctioning off an envelope on eBay. Of course, it was no ordinary envelope. It was a Mystery Envelope containing, well, as yet we don’t know because the Casino which won the auction has been rather tight lipped about it all up until now.

Anyway, the guy is at it again, this time auctioning a Mystery Key. It either opens, unlocks or starts something, but he’s not revealing what.

So, if you have a few grand to spare, why not bid on it? It could be the most expensive bit of metal you’ve ever bought, but who knows what it’ll turn out to be the key to.

Creative uses of eBay: some people are geniuses, albeit with far too much time on their hands!
