Blue Christmas

December 9th, 2007 by James

Inevitable really. Leave me alone to sort out the Christmas decorations and everything ends up blue. But, honestly, is that so bad? Here’s the full tree story in pictures, with apologies for any unintentional innuendo:

Blog off

August 27th, 2007 by James

I’ve had a blog for a couple of years or so, but recently there’s been precious little activity on it. This was partly due to laziness/time issues, but to a much greater extent I was being hampered by the blog software. When I started using Ublog Reload in 2004 it was pretty much as good as I needed. However, as the blogging world has developed, Ublog got left behind through lack of continued development.

It was missing key features such as pings, comment spam protection and a nice WYSIWYG editor. I ended up writing a whole bunch of code simply to keep it ticking along, but that wasn’t really what I wanted to spend my time doing. So the blog thing just got tedious and became more hassle than it was worth.

Now all (some) of that has changed: I’ve moved over to WordPress which has become one of the stalwarts in the content management world. It’s well supported, driven by a large community and has oodles of plugins available.

Excuse the mess while I move all the content over and get it properly setup. I think I’ve successfully pulled across all the old posts but I haven’t updated all the out-of-date hyperlinks. Unfortunately I can’t find an easy way of bringing over the comments, so think of this as a fresh start.

The really observant amongst you will have noticed the new domain too. That’s purely for technical reasons and the non-blog content will be remaining on jamessalter.me.uk for the foreseeable future.

Fingers crossed for a return to regular blogging!

Where is everybody?

December 23rd, 2006 by James

I drove back across the country to my parent’s house last night after our work Christmas meal.
In theory it should have been a nightmare journey, what with the fog, the Friday night commute and the increased Christmas traffic.

Instead, I’ve rarely done the trip so quick. Very few people were about. I hit the M25 at around 6pm - not something I’d usually want to do on Friday evening rush hour, but still sailed through at 70.

So I ask the question, where is everybody? Because they ain’t flying out of Heathrow at the moment! ;)

A Sunday Afternoon Walk

October 16th, 2006 by James

I went for a pub lunch followed by a walk yesterday afternoon with a few guys & gals from church.

It was really nice to get out into the countryside, especially with the leaves on the trees just about to turn. It should look fantastic in a couple of weeks.

Above is a photo which I can’t decide whether I like or not. It’s far too dark, but then again it looks quite nice. Oh I don’t know.

Maybe I’m just going mad - after all I took it just after passing what the walk directions described as an “eccentric tree”, whatever that is.

How many Doctor Doctor jokes do you know?

October 3rd, 2006 by James

You may start using them now.

Yes, after 3 years of trying, I finally changed my title just before 5pm yesterday. And no before you ask, I didn’t become a Miss.
