Happy 75th Birthday Chessington Zoo

June 5th, 2006 by James

Chessington Zoo is 75 years old this year. Chessington World of Adventures (as it is now) have done a few bits and pieces to celebrate the event.

Sign over the Main Entrance

Some information boards around the park

An exhibition is on in Market Square Showhouse

Circus acts and entertainers from the 1930s

There was a display for each decade featuring photos of the zoo during that period

I remember when the entrance looked like this!

Happy Birthday Chessington Zoo

All credit to Chessington for acknowledging the zoo’s anniversary in this way. They’ve gone further than they needed to (in an uncharacteristically non-commerical way) and I for one really appreciated it. It certainly brought back some memories of the zoo as it was when I used to get in free as a toddler over the winter in the early 1980s.
