Got Lost

August 10th, 2005 by James

The first episode of Lost has just finished on Channel 4, and it is shaping up to be quite good.

The story so far:

A plane has crash-landed on a remote island after going off-course on its way to Fiji and hitting turbulence. About 48 of the passengers have survived - but it seems only the good looking ones have been spared death. There’s a doctor called Jack, a bass player from a band called Charlie and a whole lot of other people milling around on the beach waiting for help.

Jack, Charlie and another girl went in search of the plane’s cockpit to see if they could find a radio to signal for help. They found that, plus the captain. However, before they could have much of a chat with him, he was taken off by (we must assume) a gigantic monster which makes weird noises and scares the pants off all the survivors.

The weather on the island seems changable too, one minute bright sunshine, the next torrential rain storms. Does this have anything to do with the other-worldly presence they’ve encountered?

What does the future hold for the ex-passengers? Well, there’s little hope of rescue: since their plane ditched 1000 miles off course, nobody knows where they are.

Expect a lot of drama, probably a few deaths (people have already been blown to pieces, sucked into engines and suffered other miscellaneous misfortune) and by the looks of it some interesting flashbacks.

Lost doesn’t yet have the must-watch-ability of Desperate Housewives, but to be fair we’re only one episode in. It’s an interesting setup, and I’m looking forward to seeing how this develops.
