Auntie has some new toys

May 5th, 2005 by James

Election Night is a traditional time for new TV technology to be wheeled out, and this time is no exception. While Sky News is debuting its pioneering 16 screen Sky News Active results service (pity about their over-colourful on-screen graphics), the BBC has some new toys too.

It looks like they’ve been spending cash on new 3D virtual reality technologies. We’ve already seen Peter Snow wandering around a virtual House of Commons, but most impressive so far has been him walking through some funky 3D charts. It looks like they can move the cameras about too: fluid motion replaces static green-screen composites, although the results have been a bit shaky so far.

No doubt the BBC techs will be tinkering through the night. Looking good so far!
