Thorpe on Saturday
The last couple of days have been rather busy, hence this has taken a while to get around to writing. Anyway, I met up with Tom and we had a great day at Thorpe on Saturday.
I introduced Tom to my temporary new best mechanical friend called Slammer. I think he enjoyed it, so my 20p should be safe … just need to get you re-riding now Tom! ![[:)]](images/smile/smile1.gif)
Unfortunately, I think Slammer’s role as my flat-of-the-moment - even riding no hands, no feet - is doomed. Rush is well on the way now, with the structure complete and the seats in place. Apparently they were testing one side of the swing, but we weren’t paying attention at the right moment. It must be a lot quieter than when Slammer was testing, because you could hear that from the other side of the park!
The other interesting highlight of the day was our duck encounter. Now, some may say it was a goose, but I’m convinced it was a mutant duck. (OK, I know that’s unlikely but that’s what happens when you’ve been watching Hitchhiker’s).
Why were we paying so much attention to mutant ducks/geese I hear you ask? Somebody has parked a car in the middle of the lake. While it could well have been the mutant duck’s car, more likely it was something to do with the guy waterskiing. My guess is this was an early rehearsal for some kind of lake show over the summer. At least, let’s hope it was an early rehearsal or the show isn’t going to be very impressive, unless of course you like watching people spending a lot of time just floating about in the water, then falling over and not making it all the way over the ramps, rails and assorted obstacles.
Other than those highlights we did the usual rides, saw the stunt show again - this time with the dive of death, met up with a couple of other ECC people and looked at a rather broken Samurai (again).
Photos (including the mutant duck) will be online soon…
