Pearl Harbor II: Pearlmageddon

April 26th, 2005 by James

With the birth of widespread use of the world wide web came an influx of short films. The Internet acts as the ideal distribution channel for anybody with a video camera and some spare time to come up with a short and then show it to the world. Inevitably, this has led to a load of trash. Mixed in though, you find the occasional gem.

I first discovered Pearl Harbor II: Pearlmageddon two or three years ago. At the time it was available through iFilm, but disappeared shortly after. At last it can be seen again via the link on the main Pearl Harbor II site.

The short itself takes a satirical swipe at Armageddon and Pearl Harbor (the movies, not the events).

If you have broadband (don’t even try on dialup - its a 70 meg download) I highly recommend having a look. It is one of the best made shorts I’ve seen in a long while: the proof being I still remember it after two years!

The song over the end titles is inspired in itself: “At least an asteroid’s not gonna kill us all”. Is it bad to admit I even carry the track around with me on my phone?
